Bio-Tech Consulting’s Coastal and Marine Sciences division recently sent a team to Guam to conduct a series of coral surveys. These surveys were in support of an international project intended to enhance connectivity throughout the Pacific region.
As part of their work, the company’s scientific dive team performed pre-project coral surveys and site reconnaissance, searching for any manmade debris. They also identified suitable adjacent hardbottom recipient sites for coral relocation. The team’s coral relocation activities followed industry best management practices and used materials that were safe for the coral. The project additionally required stabilization and enhancement efforts for coral cover and the removal of any anthropogenic debris found within the site.
Following the initial surveys and translocation, Bio-Tech Consulting’s Coastal and Marine Sciences team will return to the site over the next several months to conduct follow-up coral surveys. They will also provide ongoing coral health monitoring and reporting for the project.
