EnviroTrac Starts Remediation of a Firing Range in the Finger Lakes Region of New York

Yaphank, NY (March, 2017) – EnviroTrac has started a contract worth almost $700,000 to perform asbestos soil remediation at a former firing range located at the Willard Drug Treatment Center, in Willard NY. The site is the former property of the historic Willard Psychiatric Center, which operated from 1870 to 1995. During the initial remediation conducted to remove lead impacted soil, building debris and other items were located on the southern end of the range. Subsequent testing indicated that some of the debris contained asbestos, and approximately 3,500 cubic yards of soil were classified as an Asbestos Containing Material (ACM).

EnviroTrac’s work includes coordination with the New York Department of Corrections (DOCCs), New York Office of General Service (OGS), and New York State Department of Labor (DOL) to properly handle and excavate the soil utilizing EnviroTrac licensed asbestos handlers and supervisors. The entire excavation, and succeeding transportation and disposal of approximately 5,000 tons of material must adhere to asbestos handling guidelines. Upon completion of the excavation, the area shall be backfilled and revegetated with native plantings.
